Valerie Kerne, Ph.D.Psychologist II

Valerie Van Horn Kerne, Ph.D. has been conducting assessments of children and adolescents since 2007. She has experience in conducting a wide range of psychological evaluations including ADHD, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and other psychological, emotional, and behavior concerns.  She also provides intervention and consultation services for children and adolescents presenting with a variety of emotional, social, and behavior concerns. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, with a specialization in Counseling Psychology. Her research interests and dissertation focused on understanding social functioning in children who were diagnosed with ADHD.

She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Phoenix Children’s Hospital where she conducted neuropsychological assessments, counseling, and inpatient consultation services to children, adolescents, and families. She also completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship specialization in pediatric neuropsychology at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital in September 2014 where she conducted neuropsychological evaluations on children and adolescents with neurological/medical and neurodevelopmental disorders. Prior to becoming a psychologist, she earned a M.A. degree in Counseling and Guidance from New Mexico State University, and she worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She graduated from Rice University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology.
