Portfolio Building Tools

Phase II includes tools to allow the teacher to create a digital portfolio for each child in the classroom. Portfolio Building Tools can be found under Observeon the splashscreen when you open the mCLASS®:CIRCLE™ software on the handheld. Each of these tools is designed to help teachers:

  • Tailor classroom environment and activities to meet children's needs
  • Become thoughtful kid-watchers
  • Enhance parent conferences
  • Share information with supervisors, advisors and coaches
  • Remember the year our children spent with us
The tools include:
  • Anecdotal NotesNotes
    Anecdotal Notes can be entered at anytime on a child and can be categorized by topics specific to the observation. The date of the latest Anecdotal Note is recorded next to the child's name in the class list.
  • Social Assessment Checklist Social
    The Social Assessment offers seven items to rate specific to a child's social and emotional development. Procedures for recording the assessment are given just prior to the items. An explanation of each item is provided when you tap on the individual underlined item within the assessment checklist. Tapping donetakes you back to the item. Once the assessment is completed, you may Editor Deletethe record entirely.
  • Book and Print Awareness Checklist Book/Print
    The Book and Print Awareness Checklist offers ten items to observe with regard to the child's engagement and awareness with books and print. The procedures for using the checklist are similar to the Social Assessment Checklist described above.
  • Early Writing ChecklistWriting
    The Early Writing Checklist offers eleven items to observe with regard to the child's use of
    writing in the classroom. The procedures for using the checklist are similar to the Social
    Assessment Checklist described above.

The recommended timeline for Phase II assessments is:

  • Beginning of the Year: November 15 - December 15
  • Middle of the Year: February 15 - March 15
  • End of the Year: As needed by the teacher for the child
