Class Summaryhttps://www.mclasscircle.com

Web Reports are available after a child's assessment has been completed and synced to the mCLASS®:CIRCLE™ website. These reports provide details on assessments either as class summaries, group summaries, or for individual children. You will need your username and password to access these reports.

Reports are available in the language used for that assessment. Click on English or Spanish.

The three areas - Assessment, Groups, and Observables - correspond to the home or splash screen of CIRCLE™ on the handheld. Each area can be accessed from the Class Summary page, which is the opening page.

Color Coded for Easy Interpretation
Each score corresponds to a level of understanding, which provides a common-sense way to interpret
where your children are along their journey to reading.

Assess Color Codes
Color codes for the assessment portion of the reports are based upon the child's age at the time the beginning of the year assessment window opens (Oct. 15). Children who are three years old will have scores that show either satisfactory understanding (green) or emerging 3 year old (yellow). Children who are 4 years of age will have scores which reflect either satisfactory understanding (green) or emerging 4 year old understanding (red).

Children who scored in the emerging range need further intensive instruction with these skills or concepts. Small group and/or individual instruction are the most effective ways for these children to receive additional instruction. These children will be identified in the groups on the Group Summary page. Four year old children who scored emerging are in more critical need of assistance since they will be entering kindergarten the following year than the three year old children who also scored in the emerging level. Children who scored in the green or satisfactory range will likewise benefit from small group instruction.

The numbers used to determine the levels of understanding for each task are provided below. This will help you interpret your scores, even without a color printer. Since the scores are based upon the age of the child, it is important to be sure to enter the birth date of the child when the child is added to the class list. If the birth date is not entered, the 4 year old age range will be used, which will make the results invalid if that is not the age of the child.graph image

The Phonological Awareness Subtasks make up the composite score that the child receives, but are shown as a bar graph based upon the percentage of items in each subtask that the child answered correctly. A numeric score will not be given for the subtasks.

Class SummaryChildren are recommended for small group assistance based upon each subtask score. Therefore, it is possible for a child to show satisfactory understanding in the composite score, but need support in one or more of the subtasks and be included in the small group summary.

The Class Summary provides an overview of the assessments completed on a particular class.
  • District - Teacher selects school district.
  • School - Teacher selects school name.
  • Class - If the teacher has multiple classes, select the class desired.

  • Where To?
From the Class Summary Page, click on any child's
name to see a Summary of CIRCLE™ assessment
    results for that child.
  • Class Activities
This section indicates assessment areas where at least half of the children in your class show emerging understanding. To help your children develop in these areas, there are suggested activities listed.
Child SummaryChild Summary Report
The Child Summary Report can be accessed from the Class Summary Report by clicking on an individual child's name. The Child Summary Report will help you make sense of the CIRCLE™ score and select activities to enrich early literacy development. Change over time is shown as each assessment is administered throughout the year.
  • Where Is the Child Now?
The child is identified as having either satisfactory or
emerging understanding in each of the skills or
    concepts assessed.
  • How Can I Help this Child?
Specific activities are identified to assist the
child in areas where she shows emerging understanding.
The full descriptions of these activities
are found in the CIRCLE™ Preschool Early
    Language and Literacy manual.

Individual Assessment Results

From the Child Summary Report, you can access the results of each individual assessment by clicking on that assessment name. Each individual assessment page shows items the child answered correct and incorrect. Each task page shows progress over time and short research explanations for the assessment being administered. Criteria for activities for each assessment task are bulleted, as well as specific activities recommended for that child. The full descriptions of these activities are found in the CIRCLE™ Preschool Early Language and Literacy manual.

Group Summary Report

The Group Summary Report can be accessed from any other report page by clicking on the Groups button at the top of the page. This report gives suggested groups of children with emerging understanding of a concept or skill.

  • Progress - Indicates the number of each assesment that has been completed for a given time of year.
  • Where To?
Looking at which children are in each group will help you start thinking about planning group activities to focus on specific early literacy concepts. On this page, you can sort the groups by the number of children in a group to put the groups with the most children on top. You can also view a different class or a different time of year using the dropdown menus at the top of the page.

You might plan an activity with a group of children who all show emerging understanding of an early literacy concept.

The three suggested activities are a starting point for you to consider working with groups of students in specific areas of early literacy. More activities that focus on each concept can be found in your CIRCLE™ Preschool Early Language and Literacy manual.

Group SummaryIf there are no children in a group, then all of the children who show satisfactory understanding on that task.

Observables Web Report
The Observables Web Report can be accessed by clicking on Observables at the top of any page. This report gives information gained by completing anecdotal notes, the Social Assessment, Book and Print Checklist, and the Early Writing Checklist.

Class Summary
Each date shows when you last recorded an entry for each child. Other teachers with whom you share your class can enter Observables into your
children's portfolio.

  • Where To?
Click on any child's name to see a summary of Observables for that child. Take a Note henever you can! You can quickly build a rich and informative record of your children's growth.

The Checklists and Social Assessment are most informative in the fall and spring, or when a child has recently joined your classroom. With those entries you will have a comprehensive view of your children's development throughout the year.

You might also consider entering Observables around the middle of the year to see how your children are progressing and to plan for the spring.

  • Progress - Indicates which and how many observations have been done.
  • Where To?
You can see all of your entries for any Observables by clicking on the "view all" link. You can also select a different child from the Child dropdown menu.
  • Key

KeyObserve Color Codes
Full - Shown in green, these scores indicate the children who are well on the way. They will continue to benefit from activities where they can practice or apply their understanding.

Some - Shown in yellow, these scores indicate the children who are demonstrating some understanding of the skill or concept being observed. These children need to continue to receive instruction and guidance in those skills and concepts.

Emerging - Shown in red, these scores indicate the children who are not demonstrating that they are beginning to understand the skill or concept being observed. These children need further intentional instruction with these skills or concepts. Small group or individual instruction are the most effective ways for these children to receive further instruction.
