Center for Clinical Neurosciences

Mission Statement

The mission of the Center for Clinical Neurosciences is to provide:

Clinical Services:

1. Diagnostic uses of functional brain imaging through Magnetic Source Imaging (MSI)

  • Epilepsy
  • Presurgical sensory and language mapping

2. Clinical Neuropsychology

Research:

1. Basic

  • Imaging brain mechanisms of higher functioning (e.g. memory, visual recognition, reading and speech perception) and their normal development over the life span.

2. Applied

  • Exploring the conditions and the extent of functional organization of brain mechanisms of sensory and higher functions.
  • Identifying brain activity correlates of developmental disorders, particularly dyslexia and dyscalculia.
  • Substituting non-invasive brain mapping for invasive procedures (e.g. WADA) in determining hemispheric dominance for language and memory.

Current Grant Support:

  • “Cognitive, Instructional and Neuroimaging Factors in Math" - NICHHD
  • “Texas Center for Learning Disabilities" - NICHHD
  • “Functional Brain Reorganization in Stroke Recovery" - NIH & NINDS
  • “Spina Bifida: Cognitive and Neurobological Variability" - NICHHD
