EXCURSION – An excursion to Mycenae, Nafplion and Edidauros is being planned for the evening.

The Acropolis of Mycenae offers a commanding view of the valley and sea beyond, and is entered through

the Lion Gate, the oldest example of monumental sculpture in Europe. Inside the fortress walls archaeologists have uncovered the original palace complex, the royal graves, and a number of houses, sanctuaries and other buildings.  The town of Nafplion is one of the loveliest towns in all of Greece with an old section known for its neoclassical houses with wooden balconies, picturesque streets, the Constitution Square and innumerable outdoor cafes. Finally, the theatre of Epidauros is the most famous and best preserved of all the ancient theatres inGreece.  Made of lime stone, the theatre seats 14,000 people and still used for performances today.

DINNER AND BEST TWO POSTER AWARDS

Venue:

The meeting will take place in the small coastal town of Xylocastro, on the south shore of the Gulf of Corinth, situated about 100 kilometers from Athens (driving distance from the Athens airport is about one and one half hours).

Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to Greece.

Transportation from the Athens airport will be provided for participants arriving on September 15th, 2005 (scheduled shuttle service).  Participants arriving before or after this day may use public transportation or taxi service.  Free scheduled transportation to Athens International airport will be provided on Saturday, September 17th, as well.

Ground Transportation:

Flaskis Travel: Ground transportation from the Athens airport on September 15 and September 17 can be arranged through Flaskis Travel for approximately €10 per person.  Flaskis Travel can also arrange your air travel if you so wish. You will find contact information for Flaskis Travel on our venue link at: megavenue

If you prefer to make your own arrangements for ground transportation here are some alternate options: 1) if you want to travel by train from the Athens Airport take the Suburban Railway (€6) to Central Station (Larissis) and then the train to Xylocastro (€2.90).  This portion of the trip from the airport to Central Station is approximately 30 minutes and from Central Station to Xylocastro is approximately another hour.  There are 8 scheduled times for the train to Xylocastro 6:29, 8:47, 10:04, 11:47, 12:27, 15:28, 17:52, 22:47 daily.
OR
2) If you want to ride the bus you should take the bus from the airport to Kifissos Coach Station (€2.90) where you will catch the bus to Xylocastro (€8.90).  Buses to Xylocastro leave every one hour.
The taxi fare from the airport to both stations mentioned above is approximately €25 and takes about a half hour time depending on traffic.
